Fuel Price Statistics

Average: The sum of all recorded prices divided by the number of stations. A few very expensive or very cheap outliers can noticeably skew the average. Median price: The middle price when all prices are sorted by size. Half of the stations are cheaper, the other half more expensive. The median barely reacts to individual outliers and therefore usually shows better what a "typical" price is. Typical price range: The range in which the middle 50 % of all prices fall. A quarter of stations are cheaper (a lower price than the 25th percentile), a quarter more expensive (a higher price than the 75th percentile). This range shows how much prices actually vary, without being distorted by individual extreme outliers.
